FSC certified Yulex Pure is suitable for over 40,000 product applications, ranging from dip formed, sheeted, coated, sprayed, foamed, adhesives and solid form manufacturing in consumer, industrial and medical product markets.

It can be used for fabric coatings and multiple foams that can naturally suppress flames, eliminating the need for toxic fire retardants. This material was specifically designed as flame suppressant elastomeric system for open cell foam manufactured by either the Dunlop or Talalay process.

The proprietary flame suppressant technology development by Yulex uses a non-toxic intumescent compound added to the emulsion base. Yulex Pure FS can be used in materials engineered to meet the flammability/ smolder resistance requirements of the automotive and aircraft/aerospace interiors, furniture and bedding and children’s products. It is also a suitable base for LEEDS (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) carpeting and rugs.

Specifications

​Yulex Pure – FSC certified is a GRAS material and meets ASTM D1076 Category 4 material for the total protein content. It is a high performance cis-1,4-polyisoprene plant based backbone material. Yulex Pure is ultra-high purity with over 99.9% of impurities removed. It can be stabilized and compounded with a variety of formulas depending on the end user application:

  • plus ammonia
  • plus ammonia and K Laurate
  • plus ammonia and K Oleate
  • plus ammonia, surfactant and flame suppressant

Potential applications include dip formed, sheeted, coated, sprayed, foamed, and adhesive products. Yulex Pure emulsion achieves high tensile strengths in combination of high elongations and low modulus. Typical compounding techniques such as sulfur vulcanization and peroxide cure can be used. Material readily accepts common compounding additives used in both natural and synthetic polyisoprene systems such as: mineral fillers, process fluids, antidegradants, colorants, fragrances and physical property modifiers.

Packaging

Yulex Pure is available for purchase in 5-gallon pails, 55 gallon coated steel drums, 1 MT (wet) IBC, or 20 MT (wet) bladders.

Storage

Store Yulex Pure in original unopened container at 20°C ± 5°C (59-77°F) and out of direct sunlight. Product should not be frozen. Storage conditions, changes in pH, and contamination can all have a significant impact on the actual shelf life of material. Once opened it is recommend to monitor material through visual inspection and pH readings to help determine impact of storage. For IBC loads, the material should be stirred at low speeds every three to five days for one hour. Drums should be fully inverted once a week. Refrigerated storage can help maximize shelf life once opened.

Specifications

Yulex Pure Solid is a cis-1,4 polyisoprene plant based backbone (GRAS material) in an ultra-high purity form.  It can be  formulated with or without antioxidants, additives, fillers or colorants. Yulex Pure Solid formulations contain minimal impurities  with  low  ash  and  dirt  values  (in  accordance  to  ASTM  D2227,  Grade  L),  and  have  consistent lot-to-lot values when compared to commercial hevea. Yulex Pure Solid is available with and without an antioxidant package.

Yulex Pure Solid is an ultra-pure polymer system specifically for food grade applications and customer performed compounding.

Yulex Pure Solid stabilized with a FDA compliant antioxidant package (21 CFR 177.2600) is free of any other additives, fillers or colorants.

Both materials may be used for closed cell foams and other hot molding methods. Typical compounding techniques such as sulfur vulcanization and peroxide cure can be used. Material readily accepts common compounding additives used in both natural and synthetic polyisoprene systems.

Packaging:

Yulex Pure Solid is available for purchase as a single unit or on a pallet of 48 boxes (1,056 lbs) in 4 tiers. A unit package is a 22 lb. block inside a cardboard box.
Storage:

Yulex Pure Solid should be stored in the original vacuum-­‐sealed bags at 20°C ± 5°C (59-­‐77°F), out of direct sunlight, and avoid exposure to high humidity (≥ 40% relative humidity).  Product should not be frozen.  Once opened, material should be used within 30 days.

What does “no-sensitizing levels of proteins” mean?

Individuals without Type I Latex Allergy have a negligible risk of developing this allergy from the product. It is safer than unrefined commercial hevea natural rubber or hevea natural rubber latex.

What are Hevea contaminates?

Hevea is currently dirty. There is variation from plantations to the seasons which impact the plant – its soils and stress levels. When the plant is tapped for Natural Rubber Latex, multiple plantations are aggregated. When they process it they remove the plant juice and they grab the solid. They add ammonia for preservatives to keep it biologically stable. When you receive it it has minerals, dirt and protein in it. Yulex removes all of the “tree juice/liquid junk” and replaces it with our own clean formula. By doing this, we thin out the impurities, protein and non-rubber materials to create durability and consistency in the rubber molecule. You end up with a natural rubber that is pure and consistent regardless of what time of year it is or where it came from.

What is the difference between latex and natural rubber?

The term latex describes any polymer in a water-based liquid or viscous state. The word latex by itself does not refer to natural rubber latex. Natural Rubber Latex refers to the white sap that comes from the hevea brasiliensis tree. Natural Rubber, as the name suggests, is dry natural rubber is natural rubber latex that has been dried into bales that can be more easily transported and stored. The typical physical properties of natural rubber products are very similar to those of natural rubber latex, but are not exact due to differences in the compounding and processing cycles.

What are Flame Retardants?

Flame retardants are associated with a range of health problems including cancer and hormone disruption.
